Meet Amy Knudsen. She’s an amazing person, but more importantly, she’s an amazing wife, mother, daughter and friend. Amy is my best friend and the sister I didn’t have growing up. She is my ride or die.
This summer Amy was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma (aka bile duct cancer), but before the cancer could be addressed, Amy had to overcome severe jaundice caused by the mass pressing the duct to her liver closed. While dealing with the jaundice, Amy developed sepsis and almost died. She spent nearly two weeks in the hospital, a majority of which was in ICU.
Finally, after months of dealing with the side effects of the cancer, Amy was scheduled to have the tumor removed in October, the day before her 20th wedding anniversary (and coincidentally her mother’s birthday). Unfortunately, when the surgeon went in, they found the cancer had spread and surgery was no longer an option.
Amy doesn’t qualify for any immunotherapy trials, and with surgery off the table the next step would be chemotherapy. Amy’s doctor has informed her there are no satisfactory treatments in the State of Nevada for this rare form of cancer and now Amy’s doctor is referring her to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota or City of Hope National Medical Center in California.
My goal is to raise $40,000 to cover Amy’s family’s out-of-pocket medical expenses, travel and other expenses related to the treatment of this cancer.
I know 2020 has been a rough year for all of us. Many of us have been hurt financially and perhaps you lost someone you love. I do not want to lose my best friend. If you are able to help, it would be so greatly appreciated by Amy and everyone who loves her. Even a dollar will help to get Amy the treatment she needs to beat this.
