Rebuild our first home
Donation protected
On July 22, 2022 my husband Dustin and I bought our very first home. Becoming homeowners was a dream that neither of us ever thought possible, but after a lot of hard work and saving we had finally done it. We were so excited for our future there! The excitement was short lived though because just 6 days later, that home was destroyed by the devastating floods that occurred in Eastern Ky. We never even got the chance to move in or stay there for the first night.
After removing almost 3 inches of thick mud and debris, the inside had to be completely gutted. Walls and insulation removed, flooring removed down to the subfloor, kitchen and bathroom countertops, cabinets and vanities all had to be removed. The master bathroom has a toilet-everything else we had to throw away. We lost all of our appliances, our heating and cooling systems, and the list only goes on…
Because the home itself wasn’t in a flood zone, we didn’t have flood insurance. And even if we would have had it-it wouldn’t have been in effect at the time.
So here we are-we owe the bank for the entire cost of a home that we are unable to live in. And after closing costs and the down payment, we have very little money left to our names to fix, repair or replace what is left of the home.
Quite honestly, fixing our home is not going to be possible without the help and support from family, friends and those who feel led to give. So please, if you took the time to read this, consider giving if you are able too. No amount is too small and whatever you give will be so very appreciated!!
Help us keep our dream alive of owning our own home. ❤️
