Infant Adoption for Jesse and Kate
Donation protected
February 2022 Update: Jesse and Kate have been matched!
We are pleased to introduce our son Pilgrim Richard Gardner Sumpter. God is good. Pilgrim was born January 19 at 8:33pm. He was born at 27 weeks. He was 2lbs 4oz and 14inches. He is now at 30 weeks or 3 weeks from birth. He is doing very well for being a premie. He has regained his birth weight and is going strong.
We are thinking that the baby will need to be in the NICU until the end of April.
Travel expenses will be about $1000 over the next few months: gas, food, etc
Legal expenses to finalize the adoption in about 10-12 months will be about $2000: lawyer work, court hearing, etc. The birth mother has already terminated her rights so this 10-12 month process is an agency process.

We have been working with our adoption agency for a little over three years. We met our son on Feb 4. Our caseworker told us that we had submitted our profile books to the agency on that very same day three years ago. It has been a long journey.
There are a few complicating factors to the situation. Pilgrim is in a hospital NICU in Boise. So he will need to remain in the NICU for a couple of months. He is doing well and is healthy so we are thankful for that.
Our plan is that Kate will be staying long term near the hospital for the next couple of months. Jesse will stay home (about 6 hours away) to teach my classes and to help our daughter go to school. Jesse will then go down to the hospital on the weekends to visit Kate and the baby. Jesse is planning to visit Boise every weekend until the end of April so about 8-10 trips down to Boise (about 6 hours away).
