Localish Introduction
Please join The Farmer Ken in the initiative to build FREE Community Garden Spaces in under-resourced communities. One of my passions has always been to help empower communities through education, tools, programing and resources. Over the past 15 years, I have implemented youth and family education and enrichment programs and have incorporated community garden spaces in Columbus OH, Chicago, IL and Los Angeles, CA.
We are seeking donations to build Community Garden Spaces set to begin in 2021.
Community Garden Spaces will serve as a FREE shared community space for people to cultivate food, learn, and share. In areas where space is limited; the goal is to identifying a common place where people can have a plot to grow their own produce. It is imperative that communities are provided with gardening resources, holistic programs and activities so that people can be self-sustaining. It has become even more apparent during the Covid-19 pandemic that gardening is an essential resource for resiliency.
One goal of implementing Community Garden Spaces is to bring Food Equity by lessening the negative impact of food deserts and food swamps. This space will provide an opportunity to grow nourishing, nutritious, freshly grown food in areas that have limited affordable options and resources to eat more healthy.
The garden spaces will be a welcomed area for youth, families and the greater community to interaction, engage , learn and grow together. Part of the initiative is to offer Free Garden Education experiences. This will serve as a means to equip people with knowledge and skills to be successful with their own gardens. We will also offer healthy cooking, eating, and wellness workshops and activities .
Funds will go towards securing garden spaces, garden implementation, installation, infrastructure and programming.
