On Saturday June 27th, 2020, our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and beloved woman, Hyacinth Best Nelson passed away unexpectedly. A day following her 83rd birthday on June 26th. She leaves behind her sisters, sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Hyacinth Best-Nelson was known by many names; Mommy, Ma, Aunty Hyaci, Hyah, Granny, Grandma, and Smurf. However, no matter the name you knew her by, you knew when you called on her you would be wrapped up in her words and persona that made you instantly feel loved and seen. To know her, was to know love. To be loved by her, was to be blessed. To be prayed over by her meant that you were truly protected and guided. Her life was to share and send love in ways that I doubt anyone will ever be able to replicate, let alone have the capacity to fully engulf another as she was able to. Hyacinth Best-Nelson was love personified in every single way. know Hyacinth also meant that you were in some form on her Prayer Wall or your name written down to which she would pray every morning and night over loved ones and anyone who prompted for a prayer request. I could write novels about this woman, but as all of you know; it just wouldn't do her justice. To come to terms with this has not been an easy plight. Yet we find happiness, reassurance, joy and comfort in God's words as Hyacinth was a good and faithful servant to our father above. That the heaven's sang as her name was pronounced, that her treasures will be awaiting her as she walks the golden pathway into heaven, and one day...one day we will all see her smiling face again.
Even though her journey on this earth has ended, we want to see that her legacy, dreams, and desires come to tuition. This page , and the funds we hope to raise, will be used to aid in helping to pay off costs associated with her medical bills, funeral arrangements, donating to a battered women's shelter in Jersey City, as well as being able to bring her remains to her homeland of Trinidad & Tobago and to the Holy city of Jerusalem where she has always dreamed of going to visit. We only hope to remember her for the person she was and the imprint she has left on our hearts, minds, and souls. She will be truly missed but we also look forward to sharing her love, sharing her story, and celebrating her from this day forward. July 3: Update! The cost got lowered as some of grandmas bills was approved by Medicaid or died with my grandmother. Thank the lord.
