HBOT Chamber-Bubba Long #SMILES4BUBBA
Meet Bubba, a quadriplegic, 6-year-old young man. Watch out though! He is known to quickly charm the girls with his almost subconscious facial expressions. There is a glow about him when he recognizes your voice. His excitement will turn to tongue spasms or quick blinking eyes. These are the only movements available to him, there is a joy and happiness that he brings to everyone. He quickly becomes a focal point to those who meet him, and they can’t wait to show him a heartfelt love. In all the group settings with Bubba, I have seen compassion in mankind at an unmeasurable level. A compassion that is handcuffed because it seems we may only offer him our prayers and smiles.
Six years ago, a young pregnant girl was giving birth to Bubba when she unexpectedly died. This cut off Bubba’s oxygen supply resulting in Cerebral Palsy and 95% paralysis. Craig and Michelle were urged by everyone to let the state assume responsibility for him, but they had already promised the young mother they would adopt him. Being true to their word they have brought him into their family. Bubba will always be as an infant. Calling Craig and Michelle special human beings is an understatement; they have also adopted a young lady who also has special challenges.
There is currently a way in which each one of us can show some love, some appreciation to two people that are taking care of one of “ours”. They dream of having a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber for Bubba. What will a hyperbaric chamber do for Bubba? It is believed that it will help the brain injury and allow him to make the connections in the brain to possibly do more. More importantly, it helps to manage joint and muscle pain. People with CP often struggle with lots of pain in their legs and arms because movement is limited. An hour a day in the chamber has been shown to reduce or eliminate pain.
Michelle and Craig will buy one from their own sweat as soon as their van is paid off. We, those of us reading this, will show Craig and Michelle that they needn’t finance the hyperbaric chamber after the van is paid off. Arguably the best part of Charles Dickens’, A Christmas Carol, was when Jacob Marley yells at Scrooge: "Mankind was my business." So let each of us say to Craig and Michelle, Please allow us to be a part of Bubba’s life and accept our gift of the following amount...
