Hydrotherapy for Atlas

As you may know, Atlas was born in February with a rare skin disease that only 1/200,000 are affected, called Ichthyosis.

This is an incurable disease that does not have a treatment plan, only a trial and error management plan. His skin routine takes hours per day just to attempt to keep his skin from flaring.

Ichthyosis, in a nutshell, is extremely dry, scaling skin that peels off daily. The body produces skin cells quicker than they can shed, often causing buildup that hardens and peels. Some symptoms are severe dehydration, infections, chronic blistering, overheating, rapid calorie loss and much more.

Itchthyosis patients are highly prone to bacterial infections resulting in hospitalization due to constantly having a missing layer of skin and are unable to sweat which causes overheating easily. They also have a hard time regulating and maintaining body temperature.

The pain that Ichthyosis causes is often compared to that of a burn victim due to his nerve endings being exposed throughout his biggest organ, his skin.

After spending hours on end researching, we found a big part of the management plan for Ichthyosis is a form of hydrotherapy. This machine will assist in the skin cycle and help him shed his scaling and built up skin and drastically decrease bacterial infections and hospitalizations.
