The Forgotten Ones Emi and Akio

Tax deductible
Emi and Akio are a bonded pair of adult Akitas found living without water or food durning a heat wave in the front yard of their Oklahoma City home after their owner was arrested . Nobody knows how long they had been out there . Luckily someone called for help and both dogs where taken to the safety of the local shelter .
Fast forward we where notified about this pair by a shelter volunteer. After seeing the horrible condition these Akitas where in we could not turn them away . We did not think Emi would survive much longer so off went Janine Roath to go and meet them . She reported back that the female Emi would not lift her head or even look up. She appeared to be depressed and hopeless . Something about her just was not right.
A plan was put into place quickly , vet appointments where made . Pull agreement signed with the shelter and off both dogs went to the hospital . We received a call within minutes that Emi had a embedded clothes line wrapped tightly around her neck . It had been there a long time as it was infected and her skin had started to grow over the cord . Emi needed to be taken into emergency surgery , the clothes line removed , maggots cleaned out . While under her other wounds where cleaned and clipped , she was covered in fleas and most of her beautiful plush akita fur gone . Breaks my heart , this breed holds so
much beauty inside and out to see this done to them brings tears. Emi also as we suspected has heart worm disease . Why was she forced to suffer along side of Akio ? Akio is thin has some heavy fly strike and has flea bite dermatitis . He also has some open sores .
Both Akitas have suffered , left out in the heat without water . This negelect did not happen in a few days .
we spoke to the vet , what a great guy. He wants to help and said something to me that really touched my heart. Dr Floyd said your Akitas did nothing but lick
my hands as I examined them . These Akitas are my friends and I am happy to help them both .
Right now boarding for both are 50 a day . They are in the AC given care and food .
they are going to have to be there awhile . Emi will need to be treated for heart worm as we have some new infectious disease laws now in place in our state. Doing full heart worm treatment requires at least two months of care. Then we have medications for two dogs . Add to that spay , neuter and gastroplexi.
once we get a final invoice we will post on the thread . Now let’s pray nobody bloats or has any new issues …. These two Akitas need us . They suffered . Let’s make their lives better looking ahead. I thank you all .
