James - (Hymie) Home Needs: A Path to Recovery

Dear Friends and Family,

At the end of November, Hymie experienced a devastating fall at home that changed his life. Following emergency surgery to address his injuries, he has been left unable to walk or move his arms and legs. This has been a very difficult time for Hymie, Diana (his wife) and all of us who love and support him.

Despite these challenges, Hymie maintains a positive outlook and attitude. He is currently receiving exceptional care at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab , the number one rated spinal rehabilitation center in the US. With their support and his unwavering spirit, Hymie is working tirelessly to regain movement and independence.

Hymie's life before this tragedy was one defined by activity and giving back to others and community. He is a retired Police Officer from the Town of Normal and since retirement has been very active in the community contributing to various organizations close to his heart. His love of sports was a major part of his life—he dedicated countless hours to officiating youth sports, high school and college games, fostering teamwork and sportsmanship in young athletes. His kindness, passion, and commitment have touched so many lives, and now, he needs our support more than ever.

As we focus on his recovery, we also need to prepare for the next phase of his journey. Once Hymie completes his rehab stay, his home will require significant modifications to accommodate his new needs. These adjustments are essential to ensure he has a safe, accessible environment where he can continue his recovery and live with dignity.
