Hypha Climbs Kilimanjaro!

Donation protected
Recruiters and graduates placed into recruitment through Hypha were entered into a draw for the chance to join Will and I on an incredible journey; scaling Mount Kilimanjaro!

The lucky winners, Josh Black of Stratospherec, Sabrina Giles of Wenham Carter, and Stuart Lindsay of Pavilion Recruitment, are now training alongside Hypha Recruit for the challenge of a lifetime.

Together, we will face extreme altitude and temperatures as low as -20°C as we push ourselves to reach the summit of the world’s highest free-standing mountain.

Having climbed Kilimanjaro in 2017, I know how inspiring and transformative the experience can be; I realised that the deep sense of purpose gained from the experience could benefit my business, colleagues and (hopefully) the recruitment industry at large!

Extrinsic rewards like commission and top-performer treats are embedded in recruitment culture, and whilst I am very grateful for commission and rewards, nothing motivates me more than intrinsic goals.

I wanted to find a way to tap into this source of profound motivation, benefiting myself, my team, and the broader community of recruiters. This idea sparked Project Purpose.

What is Project Purpose?
Project Purpose is our way of challenging the status quo and inspiring our recruiters to transcend their limits. By participating in a life-changing expedition to the summit of Africa's highest peak and raising money through sponsorship for two local charitable causes, we aim to ignite a deep sense of purpose that will fuel our performance as recruiters throughout the year and beyond.

We've partnered with Kilimanjaro Heroes, a Tanzania-based tour operator committed to fair pay and staff development, which is essential for the local community, the town of Moshi, which relies heavily on the tourism industry. The money we raise from sponsorship will be donated to a local orphanage and a local woman, Eline, a blind single mother struggling to raise her two children. I met with the orphanage and Eline when I visited Tanzania earlier this year to meet with the Kilimanjaro Heroes in preparation for this expedition.

The Orphanage is very run down; the building needs repairs, and the children need everything from clothes to school fees. Eline has one sighted child who is four and will soon require school fees, Eline's second child has inherited her genetic disorder, which causes blindness; he will need support throughout his life. Eline, a teacher of braille for blind children has become extremely depressed since being told her baby has inherited her condition; we would like to find a way to help her become more independent again.

I feel emotional as I write this, and it’s hugely motivating for me because I know we can make a real difference.

Making a difference means having a purpose, having agency, and believing in your ability to make things happen—the number one trait of a successful recruiter!

So please join us and flex your intrinsic motivation muscle by donating to our fundraising effort! Your sponsorship will make a real difference, and it will mean a lot to us when we are pushing through the evitable freezing temperatures and attitude sickness on the mountain.

We will land in Moshi Kilimanjaro on Christmas day, visiting the Orphanage and Eline before leaving for seven days on the mountain, hopefully reaching the summit at dawn on 30th December.

The money raised will be spent directly on schools, builders (to repair the orphanage), equipment and medical fees; where possible, payments will be made directly. Otherwise, payments will be distributed through Evarist and his team in Moshi, who are the Kilimanjaro Heroes!

If you have clothes, toys, educational materials, or anything else you would like us to gift, please contact me to arrange a collection.
