HYROX HEROES: Racing to help beat Brain Tumours!
Join NSHB in supporting two of our amazing tutors Pete and Sarah who will be completing HYROX Birmingham in October, to raise awareness for Brain Tumour Research. They have chosen this charity as one of Sarah's close friends, Jayne, has had this disease come far to close to her family when unfortunately her Dad was diagnosed, earlier this year. This will be Pete and Sarah's first time EVER training for a HYROX event so they are really pushing themselves mentally and physically in order to help raise money for this amazing cause!
Here is Jayne's story:
'My name is Jayne, I've been friends with Sarah for around 18 years. Recently things in my life changed dramatically and I lost my Dad to a brain tumour. On the 29th January 2024, after displaying some worrying symptoms, my Dad went to the hospital for an emergency CT scan where it was discovered a week later, after the seeing a neurologist, he had a large brain tumour. He was sent to Addenbrookes just over a week later, where he was sadly told there was nothing they could do. They gave my Dad 2-4 months to live, a bit longer if we were lucky. Around 12 days later, after the palliative care team arranged for a hospital bed to be delivered to his home, he became completely bed bound and needed round the clock care. He lost his ability to talk properly, to walk, to feed or care for himself and we lost a bit more of my fun, bubbly and soppy old Dad with every day that passed. It was heart breaking and devastating to see him that way. Sadly, my Dad died just 4 weeks and 2 days after his terminal diagnosis. During this time, I learned that of the £700m that is spent on cancer research in the UK every year, less than 3% of this is spent on brain tumours, despite it being one of the less survivable cancers.'
Help us in our efforts to raise money for Brain Tumour Research and 'Together we will find a cure'.
