Story:

Dear Friends,
Covid-19 Wave 2 has hit India with devastating impact. The situation will become worse over the next few weeks and ordinary people will be affected. The Government is doing a lot to help the citizens, but thousands will still fall through the cracks and suffer.

Who are we and what we want to do?
The Odisha Society of the Americas (OSA) is a non-profit organization with members with origin connected to the province of Odisha, India. The  Health and Wellness Group (OSA-HWG) is a team of physicians committed to serving towards health needs of the community. The team has researched the needs of the people on the ground and have determined the following urgent life saving needs:

Pre-Hospital Admission Oxygen: When patients at home notice a drop in Oxygen saturation, they reach out to the municipal authorities for a hospital bed. It takes 4-8 hour to assign a bed to the patient, but in many cases the patient’s condition deteriorates further during this wait time. OSA HWG Physicians are proposing ‘OXYGEN SHELTERS’ – a location where these patients can come to receive oxygen while they are waiting for the bed to become available. 6 Oxygen shelters need an estimated operational budget of $100,000 for 2 months of operation.

Ambulance: There are several cities, especially in Western Odisha that do not have enough ambulance services to help patients reach the hospitals or be transported to larger hospitals in other cities. The proposal includes procurement and donation of Ambulances to cover the gap. Procuring Three ambulances needs an estimated budget of $25,000.

Food and Grocery: Many patients and their families are unable to leave their home for essential needs. The proposal includes delivery of prepared food or weekly groceries based on the needs of the families. 5000 Meals and 100 Groceries deliveries every day needs an estimated budget of $185,000 for 2 months of operation.

Migrant Assistance: Many families who work outside their state are losing jobs and are returning to their villages and towns. This travel is one of the core causes for the spread of Covid. Our proposal offers emergency quarantine, primary healthcare and Covid testing facilities for the returnees. Helping 150 returnees a day requires an estimated operational budget of $60,000 for 2 months.
