Help Matthew get Back on His Feet

Matthew is a 48 year old man who has been living in a park in Carmel Valley, California for several months. He is a kind and well-educated man who has fallen on hard times and become estranged from his family. Matthew graduated college in Illinois, got his law degree from USD, and was a successful attorney for many years. We want to help Matthew get back on his feet and reunited with his children.

Our friend Kim met Matthew in a park near her home after seeing him there every day for several months. While she was there talking with him, she noticed that several neighbors greeted Matthew by name and brought him food and money. At this time, we are working on helping Matthew find a phone, a job, housing, and transportation.

Kim and another friend, Kat, have put Matthew up in a hotel for a few days, secured a SIM card for an iPhone, and clothing for job interviews. For now, Kim is driving Matthew, but this is not a realistic long term solution. We are hoping to find him an iPhone 7 or newer so he can communicate for job interviews and contact his family. He has had one interview so far and is hoping to find a job as a paralegal to work his way back into practicing law. We also need to find a modest car and insurance for Matthew or set up an Uber account for him. Matthew does have a valid driver's license and can pass a drug test. He prefers to remain in the Carmel Valley area, but understands that it may not be realistic at this time.

After finding so much success helping Les, we wanted to reach out to our community again to help Matthew. Any of us are one wrong decision away from being in their shoes.
