Anti-Racist Solidarity w/ Ferguson

Donation protected
America is built on a foundation of slavery and indigenous bones. Mike Brown is only one of the best known victims of a racist police force and economic system that exists to suck wealth from the poor and brutalize people of color for the sake of power and capitalist wealth.

Ferguson has been the flashpoint. Racism in this country (and around the world) must be seriously challenged. Deep Green Resistance is fundraising to support this struggle.

Support Community Organizing
This fundraiser was created by Deep Green Resistance, a social and environmental justice organization with worldwide chapters, including members in the St. Louis area. Funds raised here will be directed to grassroots community organizers and activists in Ferguson.

Our members and allies who are on the ground, in the community, and in the streets will assess who is in most need of the funds and provide them to the community. Funds will be used to support resisters and community organizing for strategic and effective anti-racist change.

Racist Systems Only Produce Racist Results
The prosecutor in this case is flaming example of white organizational culture and internalized racial superiority. Now, we've got to organize for structural anti-racist change. Amerikkka is amerikkka.

Marching is fine but it ain't the answer. We've got to build a conscious anti-racist power base and demand change. We gotta build our own institutions and dismantle those that weren't set up to serve the people. We support and work with grassroots organizers to seize the moment and build a base for the long term. We stand for transformational change, not just an indictment.

Racism is Fundamental to Civilization
Deep Green Resistance understands that civilization is built on slavery, theft, and exploitation. We stand against the culture of empire (that we call "civilization") and organize to oppose it in all it's manifestations.

Racism is used by the powerful to maintain their power, divide the poor, and create scapegoats for exploitation and war. It is a tool in their domination and challenging racism therefore involves challenging the institutions of power as a whole. We've got to dismantle the dominant culture.

The Police Are Inherently Racist
Noted police historian and Emeritus Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Nebraska – Omaha Samuel Walker identifies slave patrols, emerging in the early 1700s, as the first publicly funded police forces in the American South. North Dakota State University’s Carol A. Archbold writes in Policing: A Text/Reader that these patrols – or paddy-rollers as they were called – were “created with the specific intent of maintaining control over slave populations.” Archbold describes the three major actions conducted by these slave patrols as searches of slave quarters, keeping slaves off roadways, and disassembling meetings organized by groups of slaves. From the outset, police forces have existed to enforce an unjust order.

"If there is no struggle there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, and it may be both moral and physical, but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."
