I AM GROOT - Marco Groot needs help.

Marco Groot, incredible father and devoted husband is very sick. As a healthy guy who is an avid runner, Marco's cancer diagnosis caught him completely off guard. Today, December 7th, Marco is undergoing an operation to have a full thyroidectomy and to have several infected lymph nodes removed to help prevent the cancer from spreading further. While Marco does have private insurance through the Affordable Care Act, it will not cover the total cost of the diagnosis, treatments, surgery, and follow-up care. Marco and his wife Marissa have always been generous with their time and their beautiful flowers, frequently volunteering and donating to the local community. We would like to invite our community to return the favor, so that Marco and Marissa can financially survive this illness. 

The bills have been piling up from the diagnosis phase of this illness, and will only grow as Marco undergoes surgery, follow-up care, and further treatment. Unfortunately, funds are needed now to cover existing bills, and more will be needed in the future because the Groot family is only at the beginning of this fight. The goal of this campaign is to reduce the emotional and physical toll of this experience by ensuring that their financial stress is minimized.



Marco and Marissa have been married for 10 years and moved to the US from Holland.  They have two wonderful children, Tommy and Lotte,  in 3rd and 5th grade. At the specific request of Marco and Marissa, and in order to preserve the innocence of Lotte and Tommy, neither of the kids have been told about the severity of this illness, so, please be discreet when talking about this, but don't be discrete about sharing this campaign with your friends, family and community members.
