I Can Save You

"A college co-ed, kidnapped by a prolific serial killer, must go to the darkest place in her soul to escape the nightmare."
"I Can Save You." is a thrilling, diverse, action packed short film based on a pilot. The short highlights the societal failings regarding missing black women in the U.S. as well as a victim's will to survive. "I Can Save You." is the product of two years of development, passion and tears.
"I Can Save You." will show thirteen pages of unrelenting tension and heartache as well as little victories that will remind you that life is unpredictable and uncontrollable.
This campaign is severely important because it’s the primary means of producing this film. Even though LMU has incredible resources in their School of Film and Television, they cannot offer any funding for our thesis program. Because of this, we have to independently fund this project. Your support means that I do not have to take out a massive loan and add to my student loan debt.
Being a writer-director is not only my career, it is the passion that drives my life forward. With all of your collective support, I hope to create a film that is emotionally gripping and highlighting the underbelly of society, where thousands of black girls are held captive.
I understand that there are a number of other projects you could donate to, but we would be immensely grateful to you and your contributions to our cause. Should you not be able to donate, we could certainly still use your assistance in sharing our project with others!
"I Can Save You." is a student production that will cost $20,000. All funding will be going to cover the costs of equipment, rentals, food for our actors and crew on set, prepping the project, expenses for this piece, and post-production services. Funding will also go towards festival submission fees, wardrobe and permits. We are mostly a student crew, please donate to young filmmakers that want to change the world. Your donation will aid to creating a diverse environment in the filmmaking industry, as over 80% of our crew are considered minorities.
Sometimes money is tight and that's totally understandable. There are other ways to support this campaign aside from donating money! Like and share I Can Save You's Facebook page! If you would like to see updates on "I Can Save You." all of those will be posted there. Also, don't just like and share the page itself, share the posts and get the word out!

ERICA SINCLAIR - Writer, Director, Producer
Erica Sinclair is currently pursuing her M.F.A. in Writing and Producing for Television from Loyola Marymount University. She attended the 2019 Sundance Film Festival as a volunteer and was able to attend many events as an intern for Big Beach, which premiered The Farewell and The Sunlit Night. She has directed two short films since moving to Los Angeles, one of which recently premiered.
Erica chose this project as her thesis because she truly wants to start a career in fight choreography. She is extremely proud of this script as it encapsulates her voice. As an African American, woman director, Erica Sinclair wants to hit the ground running as an action and psychological thriller creator.
"I write scripts steeped in controversy and psychology because I believe that having a difficult conversation is better than no conversation at all. I overcome each obstacle through screenwriting. It is a vehicle where I could apply my emotions and experiences to create intense and honest screenplays. With each script I write, one goal is to connect to those who feel lost, lonely or do not feel at all. I’ve come across many who turn to religion, substance abuse, fitness or other outlets to give meaning to their journeys, I turn to screenwriting." - Erica Sinclair
KENDRA COPELAND - Assistant Director, Producer
Kendra Copeland is a writer, director, and producer based in Los Angeles CA. She graduated from Pepperdine University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing with a Minor in Film Studies. She is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Writing for the Screen at Loyola Marymount University. She was recently shortlisted for the Sundance Writers Workshop for a feature film titled, Nadin’s Melody. Kendra is passionate about writing works that promote compassion, holds social justice motifs, and create a culture of equality.
Why I Joined: I joined Erica’s project because I believe in her vision. “I Can Save You” breaks barriers in that it shows a strong black female protagonist, includes layered characters and marries dark motifs with poignant affection. I also connect to the inclusivity this project demands. The cast and crew reflect the world we live in, each member is made of different races, beliefs, and backgrounds. I plan to honor the practical and creative humanism “I Can Save You” contains.
TIFFANY IKE - Producer
Tiffany Ike is serving as an Associate Producer for I Can Save You. She is a Houston-native multidisciplinary artist whose work explores storytelling as a mental health practice, family dynamics and tradition, and how identity affects experience. Through her research and art practice, she has been able to utilize different mediums to uncover narratives that are important to her. She has had her visual work showcased in places such as the African American Museum in Philadelphia and has performed spoken word poetry on stages like Tedx Houston. Through the Wheelhouse Studios residency, she curated a one-woman performance that explored race relations on collegiate campuses. In 2017, she made her debut as a director and playwright in her production of Ball & Chain, a story that explores the socialization of blackness and masculinity. Recently, she completed a documentary on Black motherhood to be released in 2020.
Currently, Tiffany is attending Loyola Marymount University to receive an MFA in Film. Ice cream is her meal of choice, black sitcoms before 2005 give her joy, and every once in a while she relives her hoops dreams at the gym.
CASSIE BURGE - Producer
Cassandra Burge is currently getting her Master's in Writing and Producing for Television in the hopes of one day being the show-runner of her own original Drama series. Cassie has always enjoyed writing but it was the lack of positive LGBTQ+ characters on television that pushed her into the T.V. realm. She strives to write authentic and diverse LGBTQ+ protagonists. In her free time, Cassie loves to travel with her friends and go to concerts. The story of a powerful female lead is what interested her about this story to begin with but it's also the fact that this set + crew is so diverse that solidified her need to be apart of it.
STANLEY SWINDLING - Producer
Stanley Swindling is a writer, director, and actor based in Los Angeles, CA. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Central Florida (UCF) with a BFA degree in Film, plus minors in Creative Writing and Theatre. He is currently pursuing an MFA degree in Writing for the Screen from Loyola Marymount University (LMU). His passions include film and television, LGBTQ+ / intersectional activism, music, books, podcasts, pop culture, and how pop culture affects public consciousness.
I am inspired by Erica's vision for this project and am excited to work with a diverse cast and crew to tell an invaluable story for a new generation. Additionally, my role on set allows me to work closely with the actors, getting to better understand their process and honing my abilities in the process.
PEACE IKEDIUBA - Intern, Make-Up Artist
Peace is serving as the intern under both Erica Lee and Kendra Copeland. Currently, she is a senior at Pepperdine University studying theater with an acting emphasis. She enjoys watching and critiquing movies and tv shows with good company. Peace joined the project to fulfill her internship requirement for her major as it allows her to step into the environment and industry she hopes to work in post-graduation this spring.
BRANDY CASON - Hair Stylist
Brandy Cason is a licensed hairstylist with over 15 years of experience. After cosmetology school she furthered her training at Fred Segal Beauty, where she worked to perfect her craft with some of the best stylists in Los Angeles. Brandy has had the opportunity to show off her talents in music videos such as, ‘Shorty Like Mine’ Starring Bow Wow Featuring Chris Brown and ‘International Player’s Anthem’ by UGK Featuring OutKast. She has also styled for a CoverGirl Commercial featuring Queen Latifah. She has a passion for hair and loves the challenge of turning the imagined into reality.
Brandy joined this project because she believes in the writer-Director, Erica Sinclair. Erica’s ability to push the viewer beyond their first thought and take them to a place they didn’t know they wanted to go is priceless. She isn’t afraid to push the boundaries and delve into the most controversial topics. Her vision is bold and her drive to change the human perspective is even bolder. Brandy welcomed the opportunity to support her efforts to shake up the mundane and predictable existence of film today.
