On July 4, 2024, I said goodbye to the sweetest, strongest and most beautifully sincere person I have ever known.
My son, David, passed away at the age of thirteen.
David was born with congenital heart defects, requiring multiple open heart and other extensive surgeries throughout his lifetime. Through these medical interventions and medications, he enjoyed as normal a life as possible. He knew, and we knew, but most people around him had no idea what he was going through. Faced with his unique and complicated anatomy, his life's brevity was inevitable and unavoidable. He was such a silent fighter, living years longer than his condition typically permits.
David was admitted at the UCLA Children's Hospital June 9, 2024 for a severe cough and low oxygen conditions related to heart failure. While there, he underwent many tests and medication changes in attempt to support his heart in its failing condition, but ultimately his heart reached its final limits.
David spent his final day with his parents, brothers and grandmother at his bedside. We had the gift of being together, and speaking to him through the end. He passed comfortably in our loving arms. He is survived by his parents, Billy & Jenny, and his brothers, Andrew (15) and Jay (6).
We were so lucky to have him with us as long as we did, given thirteen unforgettable and joyful years with David. His remarkable character and pleasant nature touched everyone he came in contact with. I can't count the number of times friends, family, teachers and strangers have pulled me aside to glowingly rave about their interactions with David. I could never be more proud of the positive impressions David left so easily and naturally in his wake.
He wore selflessness and compassion in the face of fear. He has absolutely earned his peace.
We are seeking your help raising funds to offset the substantial financial burdens we now face.
Your compassion and generosity will allow us to provide David with a meaningful memorial service, a final resting place near his paternal grandparents, and for his family to have precious time to mourn and support each other as we stagger forward from this devastating loss.
Any contribution, regardless of size, will help us tremendously and be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance, for being there for us in our time of need, and loving our David.
