'I RIDE WITH MUZZ 2024'
Muzz Laverty, my friend and fellow Boquete, Panama resident, is racing to get to Aalborg, Denmark to compete in the UCI Gran Fonda World Championship on August 29-Sept 1, 2024. A 112.4 km race with a climb of 946 meters. Muzz recently qualified for this honor by winning the CRC 506 Gran Fondo of Costa Rica in her age group 65-69.
Muzz raced cross country in high school. Next came her race for knowledge by completing her education at both Princeton and Columbia. Her work in the biotech industry halted her physical competitions for a bit but, in 1999, Muzz started running again and she completed the Boston and the New York Marathons. She continued running competitively all the way to Boquete in 2016 (metaphorically speaking).
In 2019, Muzz had to give up running due to arthritis in her hip. In 2020, she received a new hip and the Bionic Muzz began her recovery by bicycling. Just a bit at first but, Muzz got the competition bug again.
in January 2023 Muzz joined the Immortal Academy in David, PA to be coached by Mohamed Mendez. She has just today finished the Ocean to Ocean race from Colon to Panama City! Go MUZZ!
Getting to a race in world championship is a great honor but it is not cheap. Especially when you are traveling from Panama to Aalborg, Denmark. The current cost of the plane tickets and hotel alone for Muzz and her husband and long time supporter Mike Webber, is $7,500. In addition, there are the race costs, food, and supplies for the race.
We are honored to have such a strong, intelligent, competitive woman in our lives, not to mention she is 65 and racing with a hip replacement. Please support the Bionic Muzz in her quest to fulfill this dream! Support 'I RIDE WITH MUZZ 2024' and donate to this amazing project.
