Kitty's Stem Cell Transplant
Donation protected
Kitty was a very healthy, active 79 year-old until early June of this year when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. In July she was hospitalized for the whole month while receiving the induction chemo. During that time we were told by her oncologist that in her leukemia was a rare gene (FLT3) that chemo will not kill and her only chance to live was a transplant. She passed all the tests as a candidate but the team of doctors voted against doing the procedure because of her age. Grams finally convinced them (with help from the blonde wig) to do the transplant. She has had 3 rounds of consolidation chemo and spent 6 days in the hospital for each.
In order to do the transplant, she will need to live in Durham for some time and I will live there and be her caregiver and take her to the transplant clinic daily. Her apartment is $2500/month and Medicare nor Mutual of Omaha have housing benefits. Therefore we have started this fundraiser to help her with the expenses. Please know how grateful our family is for any donation regardless of size but more importantly please pray for guidance, comfort and healing for her during this time.
