Supporting Gen and Ted in this terrible time
Donation protected
Iain sadly died on Sunday April 2nd early in the morning. I shall write more when I feel able.
As a family we have fought like warriors against metastatic Eye cancer. Iain was only in his early 40s when first diagnosed - he has lost an eye, had his liver respected many times and undergone some of the latest treatments in order to have more time with his family. His latest immunotherapies gave him more time but cost him dearly - repeated bouts of encephalitis have left him severely brain injured and reliant on both Gen and outside carers. Iain has been brave and dignified throughout these trials, and in fact has helped many other cancer sufferers along the way with his online and in person patient activism, arguing for decent funding for this and all rare cancers.
As most of you know, Iain’s passion was chess. It’s a great shame that his brain injury has robbed him of much of his motivation to play - though not of his knowledge of how to when helped!
We fundraised in the past for treatments and care. It seems the end of the road has come in terms of them. This is to raise funds for a cracking few last months for Iain, Gen and Ted, free of stress from finance on top of the obvious sadnesses. Iain’s brain injury has stopped him working for several years and as he was so young in first diagnosis he had no life assurance. We don’t wish for a world tour but a couple of nice weekends away would be great. A chance to make memories. Times are tight, please give what you can spare for us.
