Ian's BSA Eagle Scout Project

Hi, my name is Ian. I am a Junior at West Morris Mendham High School, and I have been a Boy Scout for 7 years with Troop 1 in Mendham, New Jersey. I am on the final step of my journey to Eagle Scout, which requires me to lead a project that is community or environmentally focused. For my Eagle Scout Project I chose to remove invasive plant species, and build Bluebird houses at our local Schiff Nature Preserve here in Mendham. The materials for the Bluebird houses includes wood boards, screws/nails, metal poles, and baffles to deter animals that prey on the bird's eggs.

Currently, Schiff does not have adequate safe housing for the blue bird population which faces problems when competing with other birds for housing space. These bird houses are designed specifically to attract Bluebirds, and baffles will be attached to the post supporting the birdhouse to prevent any ground predators from being able to attack their nests.

The cost of materials to build 10 Bluebird houses is $1,750 and any financial donation would be much appreciated and put to good use in my project. Please support the Mendham community by donating or sharing!

Please note that these funds will solely be used to fund the purchase of materials needed to complete my project. Any excess funds raised will be donated to Troop 1 per the rules of the Boy Scouts of America.
