IB Alumni Scholarship

IB Alumni Community! As we near the end of the school year, we are looking forward to celebrating the careers of some of our beloved teachers during the Pinning Ceremony for our graduating Rho Class.

It is time once again to say thank you and happy trails to one of our founding teachers, Marissa Sarabando. For the past 16 years, Mrs. Sarabando has enthusiastically shared her love of Psychology with her students (and even longer if you count her time at Memorial!) and has fearlessly led the IB Lamar Academy Programme as Coordinator. She has been a wonderful mentor and friend to us all. We will definitely miss her up-beat energy, hilarious jokes, big laugh, the "look," and loving encouragement in the halls of IB Lamar.

We are going to say goodbye this year to Mr. Steve Schaffer who has been a part of the Lamar Academy family in the MYP since 2010. His passion for World History can be heard from miles away, and we will definitely miss his jokes and love for his students and colleagues.

This year, we will say goodbye to our Lamar Academy Principal, Cindy Pena, who has been our IB Head of School and has led the program and has helped it grow and thrive as it has.

After being offered an amazing position to teach science near a cloud forest in Monte Verde, Costa Rica, Laura Nikstad will be leaving IB Lamar after this year. She has been an integral part of our school community and has been an unwavering beacon of strength and love on our campus. We will miss her greatly, too, but she will be with her family doing what they love to do.

Finally, we wanted to let you all know that our founding librarian, Mr. Ron Yoder, retired this past December and is still rockin' the bass! We are so happy that he continues to pursue his passion for music, and wish him the best in his future endeavors.

One way that we would like to thank Mrs. Sarabando, Mr. Schaffer, Mrs. Pena, and Ms. Nikstad for their service to our community and the countless hours of knowledge that they have imparted on all of us, is to award their last class of students with a few scholarships.

We are hoping to raise $2,500 for them to award up to 4 scholarships to members of our senior and classes. These scholarships will symbolize the incredible impact they have had on us, their students.

With the approval of our alumni community, we would like to use any extra money raised to give our beloved faculty small gifts to commemorate their time at Lamar Academy.

Alumni, we are also collecting photos and memories to share with our teachers while we are celebrating their retirement. Please send any photos or fun stories to [email redacted] by May 24th.

Thank you for your continued support for our school. We love and miss you all!!
