ICKSP St Walburge - 3 peaks challenge
3 great peaks. 24 miles. 5,200 feet of ascent. 12 hours.
This is the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. It takes in the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. These hills form part of the Pennines, at the top of the valley of the River Ribble in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
Miles downstream is the reason a group of young people are undertaking this considerable challenge: St. Walburge’s Shrine Church in Preston, Lancashire. Their
aim is to raise funds for the restoration of this iconic, Grade 1 listed landmark.
Dominating the skyline of Preston, and visible for miles around, St. Walburge’s Church is synonymous with the identity of the city and its rich Catholic heritage and tradition. The people of Preston know they are nearly home when they see their great church come into view.
Thanks to the priests of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, St. Walburge’s is once again attracting a growing congregation. The restoration of this stunning church with its famous needle spire is underway.
All of the money raised by this challenge will help with the restoration of this beautiful church which means so much to Prestonians and Catholics from far and wide. Please help us to preserve this treasure of Preston for future generations by sponsoring our intrepid walkers. Knowing they have your support will help them keep going when their legs tell them to stop. We are truly grateful for all your contributions, no matter how small.
Thank you.
God bless you!
