ICT Community Fridge Project

Food Insecurity according to the Kansas Food Bank is defined as “lack of access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members and limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods. Food-insecure households are not necessarily food insecure all the time. Food insecurity may reflect a household’s need to make trade-offs between important basic needs, such as housing or medical bills, and purchasing nutritionally adequate foods.”  This issue impacts families, college students, and the elders of our community.

I am collecting funds to build and sustain ICT Community Fridge Project. These fridges will be filled with donated bread, perishables, non-perishables, fresh produce, fruits and veggies from gardens and homemade meals that have the list of ingredients on them and have been prepared following food safety guidelines. We will also try and collect PPE and sanitizer to protect these communities from COVID 19. The fridges will be hosted by organizations and they will need to supply the outlet for the fridge, the fridge will be provided by these funds. The fridge is based on community and mutual aid. The goal is to take care of one another, take what you need and give what you can, #Communitynotcharity. This will serve as a free, community pantry, created for us and sustained by us. 

In order to achieve this, I need a just start to secure a fridge and the first round of donated projects. This project is not about me, this is about my Wichita community who are in need of immediate relief from the burden of financial stress. This is a community effort that will benefit all of us as we continue to look out for one another.
