Over the past several years my dad has worked hard and made many sacrafices for both me and my sister. He has supported me and has helped me travel across the coutry to forfill my dreams. Now it's my turn to help out my dad and my family.
My Dad Randy Horelick, has been suffering from severe back pain for months. He has been to several doctors that thought he had a compressed disk. They treated him with bed rest in hopes to releave the pain. After 2 months the pain just progressed so he was refered to pain management. It took 5 week to get an appointment and another 2 weeks to get an MRI. The pain got to the point that my dad could barely walk. On the day of his MRI he was in such severe pain he needed to be transported to the Emergency room. My parents were imediately told that he had a serious infection in his spine and would need to be transfered to Hartford Hospital.
After being admitted to Hartford Hospital he was listed in serious condition. Confined to his bed, it took several days to get the pain to a more manageable state. He was diagnosed with osteomyelitis and discitis after having a CT scan, xrays and 2 apsiraspiration guided CT scans and blood cultures several times a day. My dad is finally home after spending 9 days in the hospital.
He is not fully recovered and the doctors are still unsure of the type of infection, how he got it, or the extent of the damage. He is home resting and having to administer IV anantibiotics three times a day along with several other medications for the next 8+ weeks.
Since my dad is a self employed carpenter and has not been able to work much over the past several months and has been unable to work since the end of October. The rising medical expenses and needing a visiting nurse 3 to 4 times a week it is becoming a financial burden for my family with losing my dads income. My parents are very proud people and would never ask for anything, but they could really use some help right now. It's going to be a very long recovery.
