IKHAYA GARDEN FEEDS THE COMMUNITY

Donation protected
Ikhaya Means ‘Home’

It is during times like these when you see the true spirit of community, ‘ Ubuntu ‘.

Families that are already destitute, stricken by hardship, and live day to day with barely enough desperately need our support. During the lockdown in South Africa we are all affected by the Covid 19 epidemic - some people have lost their jobs and means of income to take basic care of their loved ones

Together with Ikhaya Gardens our aim is to feed 50 families with essentials of food and sanitary products.

Ikhaya Gardens is an organic food gardening and sustainable living project situated at Isikhokelo primary school in Site C, Khayelitsha, Cape Town. The gardens have been promoting a healthy lifestyle with nutritious food in the township of Khayelitsha for the past 7 years . Being an important part of the community, they have taken it upon themselves to feed those who are in need and with your help we can make this possible.

Each week during the lockdown we will give each family a package of essential foods & sanitary products. The families will be looked after by 5 members of the Ikhaya Gardens NGO.

We would like to appeal to everyone who is able to contribute . Your generosity during this time will be truly appreciated and will go a long way to helping those in need.

Xolisa Bangani founded the gardening project in 2013 to get young people involved as well as creating environmental awareness in his community.

“I grew up here, and I always wanted to be a part of the change,” says Xolisa. “I wanted to change the negative representation of Khayelitsha that the media tends to focus on, and I wanted to make gardening cool.”

TOGETHER FOR A  BETTER WORLD.

German Version

Ikhaya
               * Xhosa für “zu Hause”.

TOGETHER FOR A BETTER WORLD.
