Ilan And Gemma's B'nai Mitzvah project

Every day in rural communities, millions of people suffer from a lack of access to clean, safe water. For school-aged children it's a burden that traps them in poverty. Dirty water holds many diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, polio, and worse. Children sometimes have to walk miles a day to find water for their families, only to bring home small amounts of dirty, bacteria ridden water. Did you know that between 34 and 76 million people will perish from water related diseases by 2020? And possibly triple that by 2024? This problem is one of the most serious public health crises facing us, and deserves far more attention and resources than it has now. Our B'nai Mitzvah project helps people have water, by raising money to build a well in a community, where fresh water can be pumped for people to drink, and bathe. Not only do people need water for drinking, they also need it to wash in. Washing in dirty water will result with getting bacteria all over the skin, and not just inside your body. We wanted to do this because we want to make sure that adults and and children around the world can have water, because water is life. No one can live without water, and everyone needs water to live. Without clean water, people can not grow food to eat, or feed livestock. Water is life, and all people need it to survive.
