Illness hits Carmen, Caney's beloved veterinarian
Donation protected
COVID 19 has struck Carmen Williamson, the beloved, small-town veterinarian in Caney, Kansas. She just got out of the hospital and returned home. For decades, this selfless woman has taken in any sick, injured, or abandoned dog and cat that people drop at her clinic's doorstep, Many of these animals now depend upon her care, and with her now being sick they desperately need our help. Carmen runs her small and simple vet clinic out of an old, converted house in Caney, keeping down her operational overhead down so that the low-income people in the south-eastern corner of Kansas can afford to care for their animals. What is most remarkable about this wonderful woman is that she goes without any personal comforts , so that she can care for sick and injured animals. She takes care of her own needs last; in fact, she does not even have any medical insurance, savings or retirement for herself.
It will be a slow recovery for Carmen. Her clinic has been closed for the past two weeks , and it may be down for another month or more. The cats that now permanently live inside the clinic still require care and food. She also has more animals at her residence that require care and food.
Carmen would not ask for help for herself. She would do anything for her animals. Please help keep all of them safe and healthy while Carmen recovers. This is weighing heavy on her heart as she now worries about not only her animals but all those who bring their pets to her for free or discounted care.
We are seeking to raise funds to take care of these animals as Carmen recovers
