I'm a music theatre student and NY is calling me!

Hi, I'm Taya Tenacity Taylor and musical theater is my life. I'm a second year Music Therapy student at the University of Georgia. As part of my experiential learning, I have applied for and was selected among some of UGA’s Music program's elite students to experience “Music Theatre in the City.”

Ever since I was a young girl, I have been captivated by the magic of the stage and the power of storytelling through song. I knew from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career that would include my first love and I have dedicated myself to honing my craft to heal with music, while chasing my dreams of performing on Broadway. “Music Theatre in the City.” is an academic program this May focusing on a host of academic courses and a variety of disciplines including but not limited to voice and jazz. We will travel from Georgia to New York City where we will experience a theatrical audition, see three Broadway shows, and attend master classes from professors who are tenured at SUNY (State University of New York) as well as Broadway actors who have graced the big stage many times before. We will also tour the theatre district and visit the amazing Steinway Factory. This is a once in a life time opportunity for me and I'm looking forward to taking full advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

Musical theater has always been a source of joy and inspiration for me, allowing me to express myself in ways that words alone cannot. Whether I am belting out a show-stopping ballad or executing a complex dance number, I feel alive and invigorated by the energy and passion that musical theater ignites within me. The exhilaration of performing in front of a live audience and the thrill of connecting with them through song and dance is an experience unlike any other. Some of my musical theatre credits include Madame Thenardier in Les Misérables, Fiona in Shrek the Musical, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, Dorothy & Evilene in The Wiz, Carmen in Fame, and a Pretty Girl in Beauty & The Beast.

With every performance, I am reminded of why I fell in love with this art form in the first place, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my talent and my passion with audiences around the world. Through hard work, determination, and a steadfast belief in myself, I have been fortunate enough to pursue my passion in music. At UGA I have the great pleasure of studying with renowned instructors, who have performed in numerous productions on some of the most prestigious stages in the world. This program will enable me to continue to push myself to new heights as a performer and musical therapist.

I have registered but need a little help to finish paying for my trip. This summer semester will also allow me to earn 15 credits towards my degree in Music Therapy. If you feel moved to bless me on this journey, It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration and support regarding this matter.
