"I'm Always Here" - a short film about losing adolescence.

Hi my name is Kayleigh and I'm funding for my short film, I'm Always Here.

I'm Always Here follows James Martin and Pio Lomeli, best friends growing up on the edges of two very different worlds - one from an Irish Traveller family, the other the son of Latin American parents who came to Ireland looking for a better life. It's the summer of 1994, and they both know, without saying it out loud, that this is the last summer that really belongs to them. After this, it's work, responsibility, the world telling them who they're supposed to be. So they spend it exactly how they want - chasing something that feels like freedom, one last time, before adulthood catches up.

It's a story about a friendship that doesn't care about the lines other people draw, and the particular ache of being eighteen and realizing, for the first time, that things are about to change for good.

WHERE WE'RE AT
We've been rewarded €2,500 in production funding from GORM Media - a huge help, but a short film costs more than a seed grant covers. We're filming in late July/early August 2026, and every euro raised here goes directly toward making sure this story gets made properly.

WHAT THE MONEY'S FOR

We're hoping to raise: €1,000

The money will go towards:
  • Camera and Sound Equipment
  • Costumes and Props for the 1990s look
  • Feeding our Cast and Crew
  • Transport to and from Location
  • Film Stock/Memory Cards, Hard Drives, Backups
  • Location Costs
  • Festival Submission Fees, so the film actually gets seen once it's finished.

WHY THIS STORY, WHY NOW?
As someone who grew up between two communities - my mom being an Irish Traveller and my dad not - I grew up watching both sides interact awkwardly with one another. This really affected my self image and my willingness to show my family off. I would hide my Traveller side- even though they were the ones that stuck around to help me grow.

Ireland has become an intense place to live - and I feel we're falling down a rabbit hole of hate and divide. A film like this not only unites the two cultures in it, but also age groups, minorities, majorities, and much more. I want us to have something positive to see ourselves in, and I believe now is a perfect time due to the rise in media, but the increase of negativity.

THANK YOU
Thank you for reading this far, and thank you even more if you can help. Every donation, big or small, gets us closer to making this film the way it deserves to be made.
