IMARC Block! Aid! Upskill! FORUM FUNDRAISER
Raise their voices!
Help fund four indigenous spokespeople to travel and stay in Birraranga / “Melbourne” to join a forum about frontline resistance to mining & resource extraction for the 2019 Blockade “IMARC” Protests.
Forum details . Blockade details.
Funds raised will support :
- Jampijimpa Ned Hargraves - Yuendemu, Northern Territory, Australia
- Aunty Vicky Abdullah - Leonora, Remote Western Australia
They need transportation to Melbourne, and will also require food, some accommodation, and transport during and on the training weekend prior to the Blockade. (25th and 31st of October). Effort will be made to reduce costs as much as possible by cooking home-made meals and by supporters hosting them within their own homes, so the cost breakdown is:
Flights and trains: $2000
Accommodation: $500
Food: $500
Transport during the week: $200
Any left over expense: Legal expenses, catering during the blockade, and purchasing materials for banner making and printing.
If people give generously and we raise more money than needed to cover the expenses associated with hosting indeginous leaders, left over funds will be directed to other blockade costs such as legal expenses, catering during the blockade, and purchasing materials for banner making and printing.
Please give generously to make so that the voices that are most directly affected by the corporate criminals attending the International Mining and Resource Conference have a say in the future of their own country. These staunch indigenous activists are coming to Melbourne out of their schedules, free of charge, to share their knowledge and experience resisting these companies and the new wave of colonization they bring with them; the least we can do is provide them with hospitality.
We thank you for your support and solidarity in stopping mining and extractive industries and importantly supporting those whose homelands will be directly affected by these destructive industries.
More about the speakers:
Jampi jinpa pirlinyanu ngapa jukurrpa (Uncle Ned’s Skin Name) Raindreaming
Uncle Ned is a Yuendemu elder and community spokesman who teaches and practices culture with his people and shares the dreamings of his homelands - pirlinyanu ngapa jukurrpa – He also works doing community Radio broadcasting stories and songs in language.
He is campaigning against Fracking which will destroy his ngapa jukurrpa (his country). Fracking will cut off his jukurrpa with pipelines so it is extremely important to him not to have Fracking on his country.
He will bring his paintings, bush medicine, songs and rituals from his Jukurrpa.
- Aunty Vicky McCabe - Yelirree, Remote Western Australia
Aunty Vicky is a Tjiwarl traditional owner who has been fighting a court battle against the push for a uranium mine to be built on her country. Despite a recent loss in court, she will not give up fighting to protect her country from the threat of uranium mining.
