A Note from Xavi:
Hi, I'm Xavi,
A little bit about myself: I’m a trans Chicano man from a Border Town in West Texas.
I started my transition five years ago, and during this time I have felt more myself than I ever could have imagined. Although not easy, I have fought hard to celebrate my body and mind with love and encouragement from my chosen family.
I have had to overcome difficult barriers from a young age. My need to understand and heal from my own circumstances and experiences has translated into my professional work for the last 7 years as a Women’s Shelter Supervisor, Shelter Manager, and a Medical Care Recuperative Supervisor. Currently I am pursuing a Bachelors degree in Social Work while continuing to advocate for unhoused folks in my community as an Outreach Caseworker in Southern Maine. I believe in the importance of meeting people where they are and understanding the disparities that exist based on background, especially having compassion for trauma and generational barriers, circumstances and recognizing the lack of resources. This work is a big part of who I am, and I strive to continue to understand ways in which I can continue to support those in need.
Since much of my life revolves around being of service to others, asking for support on this platform is quite a game-changer. Yet here I find myself, practicing vulnerability and doing something I ask folks I work with to consistently do, ask for help.
A close friend once shared with me: “All it takes is one person to make a difference in someone else's life.”
A note from Greta:
This fundraiser is to raise the much needed money for Top Surgery for my dearest pal Xavi Caruso, who is my hero in so many ways. Xavi has completed all the reviews and paperwork with his doctors and is ready to schedule his surgery ASAP. Xavi has been working full time as an Outreach Caseworker for Veterans, as well as studying part time to meet his goals of getting the degree he will need to advance his career in Public Service. Caring for himself has been deferred long enough. Please gather financial support around him to accomplish the surgery he’s been waiting to complete for some years. This surgery is time sensitive given the targeted dismantling of trans rights and institutions. Let’s get this done!
Funds needed for Xavi to thrive:
Surgery: $4500
Post Recovery and Missed work: $3,000
Previous Medical Debt from a traumatic accident: $8000
Total Fundraiser: $15,500
