Immediate Relief Support for Sekou Odinga

Donation protected
Greetings Family,

Sekou & I begin with offering our deepest gratitude to each one of you. Your support has allowed us to be here today and stronger than ever. Because of your generosity, we were able to meet our initial goal of $50,000 which has allowed us the ability to move from ICU to acute rehab to now subacute rehab. If it weren’t for all of you, we could not have ensured that Sekou was provided a private room, which is a critical part of his recovery process. Sekou faced being placed in a multi-patient room which would have exposed him to any number of profoundly harmful seasonal and other germs, a risk he is in no position to take. More, we would not have been allowed to stay with him 24h, which is also critical given the challenging nurse-patient ratio and Sekou’s current limitations on self-care and self-advocacy. Without you, this vital part of this recovery–which costs $250 a day, would have been impossible. From the seat of our hearts, we thank you beyond measure. What we know now is that Sekou will be in subacute rehab for 100 days minimum. That sounds like a lot, but please remember that from September 3rd straight through November 11th, Sekou was battling an infection that doctors said most would not have survived. On November 13th, we entered Phase Two, subacute rehab, where Sekou is undertaking the arduous work of reinvigorating his muscularity and physical abilities. The road may be long and it may be rocky, but it is also paved with the absolute belief that working together, loving together, will give us all we need to navigate whatever terrain lies ays ahead. Our humble and necessary ask today is that you return to supporting us at a level that aligns with your capacity. We need to raise the second tranche of funding–another $50,000–so that we can begin the reconstruction of our bathroom for when Sekou comes home and set aside the funds for private physical therapists and at-home nursing. Your donations of $5-$10-$20-$50-$100 per month–or more!-- will be put to use solely for Sekou’s recovery, and please know that no amount is too small or too big. Please know how profoundly grateful for and honored by everyone’s support. We could not be here without you. Please stay close. We need you. Sekou needs you.
With love everlasting,
Dequi & Sekou
