Immediate support to Nathan's family

Donation protected
In loving memory of Nathan Patrick Fearn, a remarkable soul who touched the lives of many, left us on 24th June 2023.

Nathan, a very modest person, was so much to so many people: a wonderful son, amazing brother, loving husband, a devoted father, a loyal friend and colleague, as well as a proud Veteran of the Royal Corps of Signals!

Nathan lived his life dedicated to those he loved. Born in Yorkshire, he answered the call to serve his country at the age of 17, joining the British Army and dedicating 15 years of his short life to the Royal Signals. During his service, Nathan served around the world, including multiple operational tours in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan, displaying unwavering courage and commitment, and was awarded the Long Service and Good Conduct medal. Leaving the Army in 2013, he settled in Germany with his wife Melanie and their son Luke in order to be able to devote more of his time to his family.

After an uncertain start, Nathan settled into his new life and career in renewable energy. Life initially seemed good. But with the change came many challenges, an arduous battle with depression began. Mental health battles, job loss and eventually the loss of himself followed in the pursuing years.

Nathan was an immensely loving person, and despised the thought of being a burden. Despite the love and support from his family, he felt burdened by shame and his perception of weakness. After battling for so long, he eventually succumbed to the heavy weight of his depressions. Tragically, when the load became too much to bear, he ended his own life on the 24th June 2023.

The void left by Nathan’s sudden departure is immeasurable, leaving all those who knew and loved him shattered and in mourning.

Amidst the emotional devastation, Melanie and Luke now face an overwhelming new reality. As Nathan was the primary bread winner of the family, with no savings or life insurance policy, his passing has left a significant and immediate financial burden, compounded by the impending funeral expenses.

I humbly request your support through small donations to aid Nathan’s family during this extraordinarily difficult time. By alleviating their immediate financial worries we can offer them a brief respite and help them prepare for the immense challenges ahead. We recognise the gravity of this request and that it is born out of desperation, as Nathan’s family tries to come to terms with the future they now face.

Your contribution – no matter how small – will directly support the family’s immediate financial needs; ensuring that a roof remains over their heads and immediate bills are covered. Together, let us honour Nathan’s memory by standing beside his loved ones during this profound loss and in their darkest hour.

Your kindness and generosity will make a lasting impact, giving them the strength to face the challenges ahead, ensuring that Nathan’s love and spirit continue to shine brightly through those he left behind.

All funds raised will solely be used to cover the most immediate and pressing needs. Any funds remaining after covering the most urgent costs, will be donated to the Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide charity (https://www.papyrus-uk.org) in Nathan’s name, as the family is hoping to raise awareness for this silent illness, and to spread the message that it is ok to not be ok!

Thank you for your compassion and support.

Pride
In loving memory of Nathan Patrick Fearn

I’m sitting here all lost in thought
'Bout things that could have been.
Debating if the life you sought,
The things you used to dream,
Have all just vanished now, and gone.
But then I rise, and scream:
You've lived! You've loved! You've battled on,
And though this can’t be seen,
The hearts you touched, the love you brought,
It will forever mean
The world to me. And so I ought
To shout it from the tops
How proud I truly am of you!
The army life with all those ops,
Was sometimes hard, and blue.
But you did well, made a career,
And had a lot of fun.
Then life moved on with quite a cheer
And gave us our son.
It's not your fault the world out there
Soon proved to be too much,
Too much for you to cope, to bear.
You just felt out of touch.
Its not your fault! You did not know
What's happening to you.
Depression grabbed you and took hold
And changed the life you knew.
It's not your fault!! The shame you felt
It wasn't real. Just thoughts
Of the intrusive kind, were dealt.
Another battle fought.
And I'm so very proud of you,
With all that you went through,
There’s no taboo, there is no blame.
There is no need to hide!
It's not your fault!!! Let go of shame
And rise with us in pride!
