Immigration detainees in Northern Ireland Solidarity

About Larne House Visitor Group
Larne House is Northern Ireland’s immigration detention centre run by a private company, Mitie, for the Home Office. Larne House Visitor Group are volunteers who visit twice a week to show solidarity and offer practical support including signposting people to immigration advice. We see people who have crossed the border from the Republic, often either not knowing that they had a crossed a border or that it matters; foreign prisoners who are being deported after serving sentences (however short the sentence) and a small number of (‘failed’) asylum seekers. Detainees are only held there for a few days. Then they are mostly deported to Britain.
Your donations will be used to provide support to those we visit. Previous donations have been spent on things such as transport, clothes, phone credit, and toiletries. Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated. We welcome money, but we also need volunteers. People with experience of immigration issues, including detention, and/or who speak languages such as Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic and any Eastern European languages, would be especially welcome.
