Important Marine Mammal Areas - NW Atlantic
Donation protected
What is the IMMA programme? The Important Marine Mammal Areas (IMMA) programme is a programme of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Task Force on Marine Mammal Protected Areas. IMMAs are selected areas of the ocean that are important to marine mammals, which in turn have a crucial role in the fight against climate change. Through their identification, IMMAs can be prioritised for protection measures by governments, inter- governmental organisations, conservation groups, marine stakeholders, and the general public.
What are we raising funds for?
Having recently completed the North East Atlantic Ocean (NEATLO) project with 33 new IMMAs identified, we are eager to complete the rest of the Northern Hemisphere by focusing on the North West Atlantic, where human impacts are most intense. Discovering IMMAs in this region will cost €325,000, with the money directly funding the ocean scientists whose work will make their identification possible.
There’s no question that yachting relies on the condition of the ocean like no other industry, which is why we’re calling on the yachting community to support our campaign.
NB: Robert van Tol is the executive director of Water Revolution Foundation, the non-profit organising this campaign on behalf of the superyacht community. Rest assured that 100% of funds donated through Water Revolution Foundation will go towards the IMMA programme with Water Revolution covering overhead and operational costs out of its own budget, with the exception of transaction fees charged by GoFundMe.
