Help Make Sanchez Street Safer
Your contribution will help purchase the high quality security lights and security camera needed at the critical corner of Market and Sanchez Street. These outdoor lights and camera will be used to illuminate the outer perimeters of this property and improve safety for pedestrians and residents.
Over the last few months, our neighborhood has been affected by increasing crime, such as drug dealing, open use of meth and meth cooking, bicycle fencing, harassment of pedestrians, and assault. The neighborhood has pulled together to try to increase the safety of our street, one lot at a time. Many of the residents have pledged to add cameras and lights to improve the walkability and safety of Sanchez Street. The critical corner of Sanchez and Market (226 Sanchez and 2201 Market) which is particularly vulnerable to encampments and crime since the property is unoccupied at night and weekends, despite efforts by the neighbors and resident business to stop trespassers. The recommendations by the police and neighborhood advocates is to add stronger measures at this location.
Recommendation: 4 strong stadium type security lights, and three high quality zoom security camera. The cameras will provide a view down Sanchez Street as well as the perimeter of the property and cutaway parking lot, and allow residents and the business owner to check on any unusual activity, and have sufficient resolution to allow identification of suspected criminals. The lights would make it safer for pedestrians to walk down the street. The cost of the lights plus camera is estimated at $1500. Lori of Muscat Real Estate has pledged to pay for the installation. The neighbors down this side of Sanchez, 246, 252, have already pledged to add additional lighting on their buildings, so our hope is to strengthen the safety of this entire segment of Sanchez Street.
The extra $1000 is to provide support for any other neighbors on either side of Sanchez Street in need of help purchasing or installing lights and security cameras.
All of the neighbors and residents of Sanchez Street will benefit from improved lighting. Past experience of other neighborhoods has shown that improved lighting and security cameras reduces crime, encampments, and increases peace of mind for residents and pedestrians.
