Prof Kypros Nicolaides, Doula Doula Access Fund
Donation protected
This fund is named after Professor Kypros Nicholaides and is in honour of all his hard work.
Sarah Hawkins - Twin doula/Activist
Doula from London now based in the West Country, with a passion for improving the lived experience of twins and multiples and their families from the womb, through birth and in life. A twin mum herself and somebody who supports many twin and multiple families, Sarah is acutely aware of improvements that could be made to care and aims to use donations to do two things. One is to set up a new twin and multiples charity as she strongly believes that the necessary changes can only be implemented through knowledge from learned professionals who have dedicated their lives to research into various areas that benefit twins and multiples. She also aims for the fund to contribute to benefiting families expecting twins or multiples to be able to access care if they are on a low income or from an under-represented community. The fund will also be available to support families with poorly babies who are twins and/or multiples.
More about Professor Kypros Nicolaides - Fetal Medicine Researcher
Kypros pioneered in-utero surgery to resolve placental issues experienced by twins and multiples, saving lives and advancing knowledge of the complications that can arise with higher-order multiples. Professor Kypros Nicolaides formed the charity Fetal Medicine Foundation in 1995 and opened a private clinic (The Fetal Medicine Centre), where he provided all my services free of charge and all profits were donated to the FMF charity. The money was used to give many scholarships (about 80 every 2 years) to doctors from all over the world, to support research and many millions of pounds were used to fund the building of The Fetal Medicine Research Institute in Windsor Walk London which he then donated to the NHS.
