Improving Women's Wellness is our Mission

Talitha Cumi Safe Haven is a transitional boarding home for women who are victims of domestic violence, homelessness, overcomers of substance abuse, and/or returning citizens. Our mission is to help women regain sufficiency in society, the workplace, and with their families. Today, we are encountering an increase of female residents in need of routine medical care. Many of the women entering our program do not have health insurance or supplemental plans to assist with meeting their medical needs. Therefore, TCSH has partnered with various community health centers to enroll women in their Women's Wellness Service Program. This service is designed to provide women with annual healthcare exams such as pap smears, mammograms/breast exams, reproductive health screenings, eye exams, hearing exams, and dental care. Other primary care screenings for diabetes and heart disease are also included.

The fundraiser proceeds will be used to ensure proper payment is rendered to the health centers for those women lacking insurance and in need of sliding scale monetary benefits. This supports our goal to help women develop self-care practices that include annual health exams and develop hygienic habits that support quality wellness. Some of the women enter our program directly from a homeless shelter, pre-release from detention centers, or through the Maryland courts. Therefore, many of them lack financial resources needed to cover their initial healthcare needs. While we do assist women with applying for Federal/State medical assistance, these services are contingent and take time to become available to women who qualify. Often times, some women are denied Federal/State aid which means our program must be able to provide secondary resources when required. Your support will help strengthen our program stewardship for all the women we serve.
