In Memory of Greig Lothian

Donation protected
Hi, i am Grace Lothian, Greig's mum. Our whole family lost our lovely boy on 24/7/23 aged 20 years old, just a few weeks from his 21st Birthday. It is hard to write that he took his own life but i don't think it will ever get easier telling this. His employers Euroforest-Blacklocks at Carlisle have been so supportive since Greig's death which gave me the idea of supporting the local Mauldsheugh Wood Community Wildlife project in Selkirk, to which they have made a generous donation. From a little boy toddling in his snowsuit Greig was always outdoors. He used to carry haynets and do muck heap trips when he was a bit older. His dad Neil and myself took him quad biking up Yair forest at about 3 years old. Since around 10, Iain and myself have taken him family holidays in the countryside and he was interested in all things outdoors. When Greig passed away we didn't nominate a charity. It would be lovely if friends, family, workmates would give a donation to this, no matter how small! Here is the post by Mauldsheugh.
Exciting news from the wood - we’re making plans to add a new interpretation centre and proper covered forest school building next to the current open air circle.
Thanks to a kind donation from Euroforest Ltd and Blacklock Harvesting in memory of Greig Lothian, combined with funding from the Co-op we already have a great headstart - but if anyone else would like to support us, please get in touch.
We’re very grateful for the support of Greig’s mother Grace Lothian, who is backing our fundraising efforts to create an all-weather education centre in the wood for local schools and other activities.
The picture is for illustration only - it’s the sort of building we’d like to install on a site cleared with the help of volunteers from Borders College this week (much appreciated - we always welcome volunteers). If anyone has suggestions for alternatives or ideas about how we could build something ourselves, we’d love to talk.
It will mean we can host the local schools whatever the weather and will give us a great viewing area for the woodland wildlife.
We’ve got some exciting ideas about how to use roof mounted solar power at the interpretation centre to let visitors view footage from our trail cameras.
As always, we’re grateful for the support of the Philiphaugh Estate.
