09/12/2024 - An Exciting Update! Chenoa's Forever Fund: https://protect.grandcanyon.org/GrandCanyonSARChenoaNickersonMemorial

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Thank you so much once again for all of your support and the incredibly generous donations honoring Chenoa's memory. Your contributions have been deeply meaningful to us and the Grand Canyon SAR program.

We want to share some exciting news with you! We are now closing donations to this GoFundMe campaign as we have set up a Forever Fund in Chenoa's honor through the Grand Canyon Conservancy. We continue our commitment to ensuring that 100% of all contributions made to this fund will be directed toward supporting the Grand Canyon Search and Rescue program. For more information about Chenoa’s Forever Fund and to continue supporting this important cause, please visit our new site: https://protect.grandcanyon.org/GrandCanyonSARChenoaNickersonMemorial

Your contributions will help fund crucial updates to equipment, including underwater breathing apparatus, as well as support search and rescue training in areas such as rappelling, swift water rescue, logistics, and operations. Additionally, the fund will support programs for first responders, including family liaisons for resiliency and critical incident stress relief, as well as rescue supplies like pack rafts for swift water rescue.

Thank you again for your generosity and for helping us make a lasting impact in Chenoa's honor. Your support will continue to make a difference in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of those who selflessly dedicate their lives to search and rescue.

With heartfelt gratitude,
Tamara Morales, Kyra Farkas, and Janosh Wolters (Chenoa’s siblings)

------------------------------------------------------------------

Our sweet sister Chenoa Nickerson was our sunshine.

On 08/22/2024, Chenoa Nickerson was hiking with her husband when they were swept by a flash flood into Havasu Creek approximately 0.5 miles above the Colorado River. Chenoa's husband was successfully rescued however, Chenoa was found deceased.

Chenoa unapologetically traveled the world, sharing her joy and infectious smile with everyone she met, she truly did not know a stranger. While our hearts are heavy with grief, Chenoa's light will forever be a part of all of us, and we will ensure that her spirit continues to shine brightly.

Many of you have asked how you can help. We have infinite blessings; our refrigerators are full, our hearts are tenderly being cared for by our loved ones, and our spirits are being lifted by the world who have surrounded us in prayer. As a family, we need and desire for nothing except for Chenoa to be honored and remembered for the way she carried herself in life and in the way we now carry her in our hearts. As Chenoa’s siblings, we have come together and decided that there are several ways you can best honor Chenoa’s memory:

  • If you feel called to donate, your donations to this fundraiser will be used to support the National Parks Service Search and Rescue. These brave men and women utilized every resource to find our sister by navigating dangerous terrain with extremely limited methods of communication while leaving no stone unturned. We are profoundly grateful for them and fully acknowledge that they defied the impossible to bring our family the gift of closure.
  • Write thank you cards to Grand Canyon National Park Search and Rescue for their heroic efforts in bringing our sister home to us. The NPS conducts thousands of search and rescue operations each year. Their address is:
Grand Canyon National Park, Attention: SAR, PO Box 129, Grand Canyon, AZ 86023
  • Take time for yourselves and your families, spend time with nature, go outdoors, and explore the beautiful National Parks that this country has to offer. When you look up at the sun or feel the sun on your skin, think of Chenoa and how she warmed the lives of everyone she encountered.

The fragility of life is a gift and time is a thief. As Chenoa’s siblings, we feel strongly that there are times in life when many of us have been lost and later found, but never lose hope - Chenoa taught us that. May Chenoa’s memory continue to be a blessing to us all.

With love, Tamara Morales, Kyra Farkas, and Janosh Wolters
