In Honor of Jennifer Van

Thank you all for your generosity and support for Jennifer and our family. Initially we had put a small goal as we didn’t anticipate the kindness and generosity of everyone. As we are now starting the planning phase and anticipating the cost we have increased the goal to help our family get through this tough time. Regarding her funeral, we kindly ask that you refrain from bringing food or flower donations, and we appreciate your understanding .

We are heartbroken to share that my beloved sister, Jennifer Van passed away at the young age of 23 due to a tragic firework explosion on the early morning of New Year’s Day in Salt Lake, Oahu.

Jennifer's infectious and outgoing personality touched many people, especially with her loud mouth and kindness. She was a devoted sister, daughter, and friend who selflessly supported our family financially and emotionally, especially through our most difficult times.

On that devastating night, she was welcoming the new year with many friends and family when an accidental spark led to a faulty cache of firework explosion. With her was her other half and our little brother, and when the explosion occurred, due to the chaos, they faced an unimaginable struggle to find her. After a desperate search and several hours of distress, my parents finally located her in a hospital, only to learn that she had sustained life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead early that morning, where my parents witnessed their beautiful first born motionless, leaving us shattered and in disbelief. We are grateful for everyone who was present that day and helped out when they could.

As we are taking the time to grieve as a family, we are now reaching out for your help and support in alleviating the inevitable financial burden and allow us to honor her memory appropriately. Any contribution, no matter how big or small, would mean the world to us and will ensure Jennifer’s legacy of love and support continues. As her younger sister, I am determined to honor her memory and take on the responsibility of caring for our family. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and generosity during this heartbreaking time.
