In Honor of Patrick Weaver Jr, Bubba

So many friends have continued to reach out and ask me, and my family, what they can do to help during this time of grieving. In truth, nothing can shield us from the inevitable pain of letting go of Patrick/"Bubba" when we love him so deeply. Words cannot suffice.

However, we have felt tremendous support through prayer and love, precious flowers, numerous cards, countless texts and calls, so many selfless acts of service... and a big group of you went out of your way to provide us with dinner every night when it was the last thing we had the energy to do, to cook or even think about food. It was a discipline to sit down together and receive that care every night and it was more so felt in our hearts than bellies but our bodies surely thank you, each and every one of you. You are poets of service and energy.

We have held off on making any memorial service arrangements and are focusing on our family health and quality time with each other. The brevity of life and each precious moment, unpredictable as it may be, has gained an even bigger purpose for us and we are cherishing every bump and slide in his honor. So many plans were left as blueprints in our hearts. We felt far from finished with our time with him here on earth.

And in all humble transparency, I share with you that a big plan left undone was a project my brother had laid out with our dad. It was a Huckleberry Finn tale starting with a dream of a boat ride down the river to the coast, but the real fun seemed to weave it's way into the adventure by spending time together repairing the boat my brother had purchased right before Father's Day. Talks of tools and strategies, routes and exploring along the way were the everyday excitement they shared. This is where words seem to fail me...

No one can replace the great man my brother was and continues to be in our hearts. That relation with him is sacred. But the village that you are and have become, crowding around us, sweeping beneath our arms, holding us up, has been a reflection of his love and the mark he left within you. We thank you for that sincerely.

If any of you continue to feel led to help in a practical and sentimental way, there was an outstanding loan in my brother's name that he was working so very hard to pay off for the boat and it's repairs to run properly. The dream is still alive in my dad's heart and in our hearts for him. It's the way we feel Patrick should be laid to rest, carried by the wind into the waters all along the river to the coast. And if you wish to be any part of that in contributing, it would honestly mean more to us than a public memorial right now. We see you and we grieve with you. We thank you for everything. Most of all we love you and thank you for loving him, as we always will.
