In honour of Grandma

I’ll be completing the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk in honour of my Grandma, Maureen Rowe. My family lost a beloved Grandmother and Mother in 2012 after developing signs of dementia a few years before her passing.

She was a strong woman, fiercely stubborn, independent and caring. The memories of her declining faculties are overshadowed by the many years filled with her warmth and humour. Grandma was an incredible knitter, her home was often filled with the delicate tap tap taps of knitting needles. On my many sleepover’s at Grandma’s, our day would start with a pot of tea in bed while Grandma completed her morning crossword. She’d run with me around our local park, bake bread with me, attend my extra curricular shows and competitions, sing along to the undeniable bangers played on Songs of Praise, along with many other wholesome activities. Even though she once gifted me a toothbrush for Christmas, she was a special soul who unfairly experienced dementia.

My Mum, Auntie and I are taking part in this walk and we’d be deeply grateful of any contribution you can offer.
