In Loving Memory of Anna Fernandez

Donation protected
My dear friend Anna was diagnosed with colon cancer at an early age of 38. Armed with a strong faith in God and surrounded by supportive family and friends, she braved the battle and had remission for almost 5 years. Sadly it has recurred early this year. Since the world has been plagued by COVID-19, delays in some of her treatment had detrimental consequences. She joined our Creator on the dawn of Saturday 19th September, a day after her youngest son Andre's birthday. She died peacefully at home in the presence of her family and very close friends.

I met Anna in a busy 48-bedded admissions unit in a hospital in Birmingham. We were both overseas nurses. Being hardworking and thorough, topped with her speed, made her the kind of colleague anyone would look forward to work with every shift. It was never a dull moment working with her. Her presence made the workload light as she gladly did her job, no moaning and groaning even when the going gets tough. Despite the chaos, she remains composed and gets on with the job, with a beautiful smile painted in her bright little face. She was like a ray of sunshine - a friendly, witty, kind and caring soul. She was very helpful and considerate to her colleagues.

She left behind her husband Paul and two young children, Gabriel age 13 and Andre age 7. She was a very caring wife, a very doting mum, a very organised person, a very efficient homemaker. Even with three boys around, their house is always meticulously clean. She always wanted her boys to look smart. Their clothes always have to be neatly pressed even when no trace of a crease can be seen after washing. She lovingly devoted herself to her family.

Anna was a very generous person, very accommodating and welcoming. Their home became the favourite hang-out of the group because of her openness and hospitality. Her generosity extends far back to the Philippines and her Nanay, Tatay and the rest of the family are witnesses to this.

In her untimely death, we, her friends in the Couples for Christ community, are raising money to help Paul with the funeral expenses and to give Anna a memorial service equally beautiful as she has been to all of us. She has left a gaping hole in many hearts and will be greatly missed. Truly, heaven gained a beautiful angel in her presence.
