In Loving Memory of Courtney Collins

Courtney Collins’ smile and laughter light up every room.
This year, Courtney neared a major milestone of living five years cancer-free. She was so excited to finish her first year of college. She had just been offered a new job, declared her major in film studies, and couldn’t wait to grow her hair long for the summer. But one day in May, she suddenly experienced sharp pains all over her body, and a trip to the hospital brought everything crashing down.
Courtney just turned 20 in March while studying film as a freshman at Portland State University. A cheery, thoughtful, and gorgeous girl, Courtney loves to play tennis, bake treats, and paint. At Lake Oswego High School, Courtney devoted time to the American Red Cross, served as a team captain on the JV girl’s tennis team, and was elected as a Mayfete Princess.
In 2015, at the age of 13, Courtney was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive pediatric cancer called Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma Botryoides, or RMS. To fight this highly malignant form of cancer, she went to St. Jude Children's Hospital and underwent intense chemotherapy and numerous surgeries. But young Courtney smiled through the unimaginable pain, and her inner strength prevailed. She beat her cancer and gradually returned to her playful self.
Fourteen months later, in March of 2017, Courtney’s RMS relapsed right before her 15th birthday. She endured months of radiation, chemo, and surgeries to overcome cancer a second time. Following this, she moved from Bend to Lake Oswego with her mother Betsy, two older brothers Connor and Neil, and little dog Muffin. This way, Courtney lived closer to top sarcoma specialists at OHSU, and got a fresh start. After all, she had spent almost two years of her young life in the hospital.
Courtney’s cancer is back, and although the news is devastating for her, her family, and friends, we have hope. She is currently receiving chemotherapy from OHSU’s Knight Cancer Institute, and will undergo a major surgery in August, followed by more chemotherapy.
100% of proceeds go directly to Courtney’s mother, Betsy. As a single mom, Betsy is working two jobs to care for Courtney and help fund the enormous costs involved in her daughter’s treatment. Courtney is her everything.
Thank you sincerely for your love and support.
