In loving memory of Damion Hunter
Donation protected
It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our dear son, brother, cousin, uncle, loving father, friend, mentor, and fearless barber – Damion Hunter. He left an indelible mark through his unwavering love, compassion, sacrifice and dedication to both his family and community, and we will never forget him. For many of his clients who sat in his chair, they know firsthand that it was more than just a haircut – it was a therapy session, an update on life events since the last appointment, an opportunity for Damion to talk about how much he loved his family or how excited he was to go snowboarding, camping, or even his first solo trip to Japan this year.
Damion leaves behind his wife of 12 years, Thuy-Mi Hunter (Mimi), his daughters - Sepia and Sarai, their son Elam, and their dogs, Puffy and Oakie, who will miss him dearly. He also leaves behind an entire community through his shop in Oakland, Megah Brown's, which he opened 10 years ago and was one of his pride and joys. His wife, Mimi, a Bay Area native and public school teacher, will lean on the support of this very same community to uplift her and their family during these difficult times.
In Damion's honor, we have created this GoFundMe campaign to remember the unwavering presence he had in his community as a local business owner and friend, and to also support his family through this next phase of life (funeral expenses, medical bills, mortgage payments, sunsetting Megah Brown's, for example). As we remember Damion, his spirit, his love for the Warriors and Steelers, making craft beer and cider, and uncanny way to fall asleep sitting up, we believe that together we can honor his memory in a way that would make him proud.
We know times are tough for everyone, and we are asking you to consider making a donation in his honor (no matter how big or small) to help his loved ones who are now navigating through life without him. Each contribution is meaningful.
Here is how you can help:
- Please share this GoFundMe with your friends and family
- If you have any stories, memories, or photos of Damion that you would like to share, please do so in the comments section.
More to come on a celebration of his life with loved ones and friends. Thank you for being a part of Damion's world and for helping us remember what a force he was and how much he lived these past 48 years.
In the meantime, please keep his family and loved ones in your prayers and as he would say – "go out and be somebody!" Let's honor and continue to uphold his legacy.
With love and gratitude,
Damion's friends and family
