Help honour the life and legacy of Inger Iwaasa by contributing to a beautiful resting place for her ashes.
On June 12, 2020, Inger Iwaasa passed away following ninety abundant years full of adventure, friendship, and family. With a ready laugh and a smile that lit up the room, she had a gift for relating to new people and was always open to new ideas and experiences. A teacher for many years, Inger had a passion for learning and research as well as a love for music, reading, gardening and sewing. The last six years of her life, she lived with her daughter Rachel Iwaasa who lovingly cared for her as she navigated living with dementia. Click here to read her full obituary .
This fundraising page has been created by friends of Rachel Iwaasa to help alleviate some of the financial strain associated with securing a resting place for her mother's ashes. The $6,500 goal represents the outstanding costs of the funeral home services and a niche at Mountain View Cemetery, after government benefits have been taken into account.
Rachel is known and loved in the community for many things: being one of Canada's foremost interpreters and champions of contemporary piano music , co-founding Vancouver's Queer Arts Festival , and for her tireless advocacy in support of social justice causes. In a time of great economic uncertainty for many individuals—especially performing artists—we hope to provide much-needed assistance to Rachel, who has given so much of herself to her family and community.
Thank You
