In loving memory of Jorge Villarroel
Jorge Villarroel
5/26/1959-4/23/2020
It is with heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of our father, Jorge Villarroel, after a 3 week battle with Covid-19.
He was a devoted father, loving husband, and beloved grandfather.
Jorge was born and raised in Ecuador. He was the youngest sibling and had 5 older sisters. In the 70s, Jorge moved to Queens, NY, met the love of his life, Cristina, and together raised 5 sons and 1 daughter. He was hard-working and the sole provider for his family.
Jorge loved his children but his 10 grandchildren were his world. They adored him. He spoiled them with his love-- bringing home lil treats, helping them with school projects, dragging all of them to the park. Even when he screamed at them to stop jumping and running around his small Woodside apartment--they would giggle. They knew he was a sweet teddy bear.
We enjoyed celebrating birthdays together. Jorge loved cooking for his family. We would look forward to his delicious plates seco de pollo (chicken stew), flan, and his famous Thanksgiving turkey. It was the holiday we looked forward to the most. He led his family in prayer at each gathering and reminded us to stay united no matter the circumstances.
His daily routine after work was to jump straight in to the shower, eat dinner with his Tabasco hot sauce, and sit on the couch. The TV would watch him, while he dozed off and eventually fell asleep. On Sundays, he would put on one of his best suit, one of his favorite ties, his gold bracelet, ring and chain, spray on a ton of his favorite cologne and would wait in the car, impatiently, for his wife. No matter how long Cristina took to get ready, he waited for her and they would be on their way to church together.
Jorge was a good person who enjoyed helping others and making others happy- and never expected anything. He was always cracking a joke, making others laugh and he enjoyed eating! We will remember his smile and his generous heart and we will miss him forever!!!
Thank you for all the kind words and support during this difficult time!
The Villarroel Family
Message from Kelly & Normandie Court Staff:
The Villarroel family has set up this gofundme page to help raise money to help cover funeral costs and hospital bills.
Jorge worked at Normandie Court as a handyman since July 2003. He was the consummate teammate, always willing to help out a co-worker. Jorge had a constant desire to improve and learn new trades. He was dedicated, hardworking, and a deeply religious person. Jorge was instrumental in the renovation of his neighborhood church.
The conference room has been set up in the lobby to leave and make cards for the Villarroel family, which we will deliver to them. On Monday, April 27th, we will also hold a moment of silence in Jorge’s honor at 11am. We hope you will join us and take a moment to remember him.
Jorge was loved by all of his friends and family and we will miss him dearly.
May you and your family remain healthy and safe.
