In Loving Memory of Kate Elizabeth Black

Donation protected
On February 24, 2021, the Black Family (Jim, Julie, Andrew, and Michael Girard) lost a beloved daughter, sister, and fiancé, Kate, in a tragic car accident while she was on her way home from work.

While we cannot begin to comprehend the reason why this happened, we do not feel that it is fair for the Black Family to suffer through this both incredibly mentally devastating and financial hardship. However, despite these burdens that the Black Family unexpectedly have to incur, they expressly requested that any and all donations from this GoFundMe be used to create a scholarship fund—The Kate Elizabeth Black Educational Scholarship Fund—dedicated in Kate’s honor, which will benefit a senior student at St. Frances Cabrini in Allen Park who wishes to pursue an undergraduate degree in education.

As many of us know, Kate recently accepted her dream job as a Kindergarten teacher at Lindbergh Elementary in the Dearborn Public School District. Everyone who knew Kate, knew Kate to be kind-hearted, compassionate, positive, caring, and loving. The Black Family truly believes that this would have been exactly what Kate would have wanted: to be able to give back to a student from her alma mater with similar aspirations as she had.

All donations, whether small or large, are greatly valued and will help create what Kate would have wanted.

Heartbroken does not even amount to what Kate’s family is feeling right now. Kate was so loved by her family, friends, and fiancé, Michael Girard. While we are all coping with disbelief, the Black Family and Michael deeply appreciate the overwhelming support from those that have reached out. Kate’s memory will live in our hearts forever.

Please note that this the only GoFundMe approved by the Black Family. Kate’s immediate family will be the sole beneficiaries of this fundraiser, and as mentioned above, Kate’s immediate family will use all proceeds to dedicate a scholarship fund named in her honor.

May God Bless the Black Family and Michael during this difficult time.
